As we all know, the blessed month of Ramadan is just few days away and to maximize the benefit of the month, we need to prepare for it and plan for it.
Below are some of the steps you can take to prepare for the month, maximize its blessing and achieve goodness even after it’s gone.
Preparing for the month
Fast during the month of shaban: As we all know, to get the most out of something, we practice for it before it’s time. Just like we practice pitching before going in for a competition, it is recommended that we practice fasting during the month of shaban to get the body adapted to the new system.
Manage food intake: More like voluntary fasting, cutting down our food intake weeks/days prior to the start of Ramadan will help us adapt quickly to the “No food in the day” during the Month.
Renew our intention for the blessed month: It is important that we renew our intention before the start of Ramadan. As we know, actions are judged according to the intention we had of doing them and it is important we have the right intention to get the most out of Ramadan
Read and reflect on the meaning of the Quran daily:What better time to connect with the words of Allah than this period when all hearts turn to the Maker in humble and sincere repentance and humility? Spend more time to recite the Holy Quran and reflect on its meaning; Reconnect with the word of Allah.
Daily gratitude:Allah promised that if we are grateful, he shall give us more.
14:7 (Surah Ibrahim verse 7)
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’ We lose nothing from being grateful for what Allah has done for us. So we should constantly thank Allah for blessings.
Build new positive character:The month of Ramadan is a good time to take up new habits that improve us as individuals and also take us closer to our creator. So, let’s build up new positive habits this month.
Give more to the less privileged to attain contentment: The importance of charity can not be underestimated in Islam and in our society. Feed the less privileged and give to the poor during and beyond Ramadan.
Reflect on your personality (take time to reconnect with yourself): Because of our busy life schedule, most of us do not get time to reconnect with ourselves during the year. The month of Ramadan is a perfect time to reflect on life and redefine our purpose in life (to establish deen in ourselves and others).
Keep the momentum with the new positive character:Yes, we develop new positive habits during Ramadan. But there is no better way to achieve inner fulfillment than keeping up with those habits even when the month is over. Learning to keep good habit will save us lots of stress in trying to fit into the crowd.
Try staying away from the negative habits you abstain from during Ramadan: Many of us stay away from bad habits during Ramadan, but pick up those habits after Ramadan. Now is the time to stop that. We should permanently let go of behaviors that do not portray us well before our creator.
