Ever thought about embarking on a self discovery journey?
Okay so, self discovery here is not learning the obvious (like your name, place or date of birth) but discovering your inner being; more of you spiritual self, your soul.
Allah Says in Surah Maidah verse 105;
“O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided. To Allah is your return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do.” (5:105)
In this verse Allah is telling us to take care of ourselves, that if we understand ourselves and are believers, those who are misled will not harm us. This simply means we will be able to stand against odds and society prescription of success if we know ourselves and what is right in deen.
In Islam taking care of oneself spiritually is closely connected with being concerned with the welfare of our society. Conversely, it is important to remember that the society can greatly influence a person, weakening or strengthening one’s faith; so, self discovery will help us know which of the society’s claims is to be taken or left.
Also identifying oneself and building that great home in you (things that give you inner satisfaction) will help you live through the lone days others call loneliness. If we know ourselves, being alone will not amount to loneliness. Self discovery also help us stay far away from depression and other mental issues; a well discovered self will know the best way to approach issues that could possibly lead to mental illness and vices.
Self discovery also help one become intimately familiar with his or her abilities and aptitudes and understand the best area he/she can best succeed and lead to self confidence.
Note; Self confidence is different from arrogance. Anyone who underwent a self discovery journey successfully, putting Allah at the core will have a full fledged self confidence and not Arrogance.
Remember, no matter what part your souls takes in its discovery, put in mind that a soul finds rest only in the remembrance of Allah; so keep Allah at the core of all you do and his masterpiece Al Quran as our wholly guardian.
Do not torture your mind by blindly following what the world prescribe is success. Embark on your own self discovery journey and create the path of inner fulfilment with guidance from the Holy Quran.
